The Griswold Inn is defined by its uniqueness, and our guest rooms are no exception. We have 33 charming rooms, no two exactly alike, and we do offer first floor rooms as well as a fully ADA compliant accommodation.* Furnished with antiques, period reproductions and Leonard’s Beds – yes, the same Leonard’s that has supplied a bed or two to The White House – some have fireplaces, some have views of “village life” and some boast glimpses of water. All have private baths and free wireless internet access. A complimentary continental breakfast is also included.
“Colonial reproductions are legion, but for the real McCoy,
set sail for Essex, and stay at The Griswold Inn.”
-New York Magazine
We are often told that for anyone staying in Connecticut – or New England for that matter – there is no better location than The Griswold Inn. We are located on Main Street in historic Essex Village, named the “Best Small Town in America.” A few steps outside your door are the shops and galleries of Essex, as well as Essex harbor and the majestic Connecticut River. There are many, many Things To Do in the immediate area as well as within easy reach. For rates & reservations information click here.
*Due to the fact that we are a historic property, our lobby and some of our other spaces may not be accessible to those with disabilities. We do, however, have accessibility to our Tap Room and our largest historic dining room, The Covered Bridge.
Essex is that small walkable town with unique boutique shops and a long history. The hotel was built in 1776 and the room we stayed in showed the history with its old beams and original floor. Make no mistake, the room was in great shape. Deluxe with a King just over the toy shop. Peaceful, romantic, and quality abounds.
