Please note: On Saturday, June 18th, our dining rooms, Tap Room and patio will be closed during lunch service and early afternoon after which all of our drinking and dining venues will reopen. A Celebration of the Life of William G. Winterer will be taking place.

Bill Winterer, former Owner and Innkeeper of The Griswold Inn for 26 years and a long-time resident of Essex, gathered many friends and admirers over the years due to his extremely gregarious nature. A large number of guests is expected at this gathering. We appreciate your understanding of this unusual circumstance and hope we will be serving you soon.

 

We offer three unique dining experiences, Historic Dining, Wine Bar Dining, and Tap Room Fare, each under the careful watch of Executive Chef Shaheed Toppin. Chef Toppin, in his seasonally driven menus, showcases the finest products from the farms, orchards and waters of the Connecticut River Valley and New England shore. Our award-winning wine list is available in all of our dining venues, as is our eclectic offering of martinis and our robust collection of imported, domestic and micro-brewed beers. In nice weather, eating outside on our patio is another enticing option.

Each dining venue showcases one of the most celebrated private maritime art collections in America, and many of our customers enjoy live and lively entertainment each night in our award-winning Tap Room.

Hunt Breakfast

Enjoy the thrill of the hunt each Sunday when a bountiful spread is laid out buffet-style. Breakfast is served from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and reservations are suggested, 860.767.1776. Dixieland Jazz by Freight Train Five begins at noon!
